Adventures of the Mainland
So guys it's been quite a while, and I know I'm long overdue for a blog post about. I also know that alot of you want to know about my trip to New York City.
So as most of you know I interned with a church in Manhattan in 2009 called The Gallery Church. It was a super awesome summer, and I made a lot of really great friends. So when I went back to New York last week I was excited to see them all and all the places again.. I should start by saying that I really enjoy airports, I know a lot of people don't. But for me it's really exciting, so many people around you who are about to go off on their own adventures. The smell of the air in airports is also interesting. Anyway the airports I went through really helped add to my experience. I stayed with a friend on the North side of the island named Gregory Cruz. While I was there I got to spend a lot of time just walking around the city by myself and riding the subways. It was neat to visit some of my favorite spots, like Gigi's Cafe of 72nd and Broadway. I went there twice just to get black and white cookies :) ....which are amazing by the way. I also got to go back to Coney Island.
I also got to venture down to the south side of Manhattan to go back to Canal Street, which is China Town. Which is always fun. I love the food down there. And the smells of the fish markets, and all the super shady shop owners trying to sell you crazy stuff. even though I didn't get to go back to Battery Park this trip, which looks across the bay towards the statue of Liberty and Staten Island, I do have a drawing from a day I spent there three years ago. The statue in the back is a memorial from the Korean War.
During my walk around Coney Island I struck up a conversation with a group of young ladies, just asking them about the area and what it was like to grow up in the city. They were really cool, but it was during that conversation they told me about a beach that was further away, about 45 minutes further on the subway, and then 15 minutes on the bus. But they said it was a lot better. After Coney Island I stopped at Prospect Park in Brooklyn. It was really nice, you could really tell a lot of work went into that park, definitely worth the trip. So the next day I took the trip over there. And let me tell you, IT WAS AMAZING! The air was so fresh, and the water was so clear. It was like a less touristy Rockport,TX. I ate lunch there that day, I had crabcakes to start with, and then some Lobster bisque, and the entree was a steak with creamed spinach. Oh man I was so hungry I ate it all. Now the steak wasn't like my dad's but it was still good. It was a really good day.
My last day I spent walking around the city some more. I went to the Rockefeller Center and the NBC store to get my bros some pretty cool swag.Yep I said Swag. I spent the rest of the afternoon at the Guggenheim Museum. It's really neat if you've never been there. A lot of interactive modern art exhibits. The architecture is very neat as well. Some of the art in there I'm not sure how you can call it art,but people are crazy.....so maybe that's what makes it art. Anyway here is my drawing of it.
I ate dinner that night from a cart in Columbus Circle. It was really nice.
There were a lot more things I did while I was there, and I would love to tell you about it if you're curious. But I just got to my summer job here at Camp Peniel and things are busy. Don't worry though I'm sure I'll have more info soon for you guys to munch on.
Till then, I hope you guys are enjoying the Adventures your lives are taking you on,
Love you guys!
